Camogli is one of the most fascinating seaside villages in Liguria. The protagonist here is the sea, always present in all the events of the city. The plaque at the entrance to the city says: “Camogli – a seaside town”.
You will be enchanted by the beauty of the facades of buildings painted in pastel colours that surround the waterfront. The equipped beaches are covered with pebbles, which were once used for the installation of traditional mosaics in black and white colours in the courtyards of the church, a magnificent example is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
We also recommend to visit the Dragonara Castle. An ancient fortress built on top of a promontory overlooking the sea. It was once the observation point in case of invasion of the Saracens.
Every year, on the second Sunday of May in Camogli, the Fish Festival takes place, during which the fish are fried in one of the squares of the city in a large pan with a diameter of 4 meters.
Starting from 1400, on the first Sunday of August, a festival dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary, La Festa Stella Maris, is held in Camogli. After a religious procession, in the evening, thousands of small candles are lit and released to float in the sea, creating a unique and fairy tale effect.
